Before I begin designing the open world level for this project, I decided to first develop the core mechanics and movement systems of my game, using both Blueprints and advanced assets. This has the benefit of both enhancing my skills with Blueprints, but also allows for a far deeper and comprehensive design experience when it comes to creating the level. It's almost pointless producing a blockout when there is no way to properly test if the level fully utilises the game's mechanics to their full potential or produces an enjoyable and engaging game experience. This project will allow me to do exactly that and get as close as possible to designing a level for a professionally produced game when that would otherwise be impossible.

Goals and Restrictions
My goals of this project are to:
-
Design an open world environment for an Assassin's Creed style RPG.
-
Practice level design for expansive projects with many elements and mechanics.
-
Enhance my skills with Unreal Blueprints, a valuable skill for level designers.
-
Create a fully playable level utilising all mechanics and features that this project will include.
My restrictions for the project are limited as this is a long term project, however there are some such as:
-
The time it takes to learn Blueprints and use them competently.
-
Managing to create this large scale project around my day job.
