Level Design
The major elements this project was built around was the world painting mechanic, the damage received by any contact with the opposing team's paint and the combined health/ammunition challenge. This final element required a great deal of balancing to ensure it remained a fun tactical element without becoming frustrating or debilitating. Players are able to refill their health and ammo via their base paint tank, but to prevent too much back and forth travel, mini paint tanks were added around the map that both teams could refill from. The speed of the game was kept high by allowing players to run up and over walls, this also meant wall paint coverage was just as vital as floor coverage, maximising paint importance.
I was solely in charge of level design for this game, from its conception to its creation within Unity. Originally designed as a 3v3 map, the layout comprises two routes on two storeys between each team's base. There is a central courtyard with multiple access points from these two routes which serves as a major action area. Windows from the upper levels add a height element that offers a variation in gameplay.
